Transportation in Crete


The Centre can take care of the student's transportation to and from the airport by taxi; just let us know in advance the exact time of your arrival / departure, the airline and your flight number.

Getting to Hania:

By ship from Piraeus:

Departures every day at 20:30 a.m. from Piraeus port to Souda port (the trip duration is about 10 hours). The port of Souda is located 7 km east from the town of Hania.

 

By airplane:

There are every day flights from Athens to Hania with Olympic Airways, Aegean Airlines and Cronus Airlines. There are also flights (twice a week) from Thessaloniki to Hania. From April to October there are many charter flights to Hania from and to various European cities.

The airport of Hania is situated 13 km from the city's centre.

 

By bus (through Heraclion or Rethimno):

Buses depart every day to Hania. In the high season, the daily departures are much more often.
Rethimno-Hania: 58 km
Heraclion-Hania: 140 km

 

Getting to Hania from Peloponissos:

South Peloponissos (Githio, Kalamata) is connected with West Crete (Kasteli) by ships all year round. Kasteli is located 45 km west of Hania.

 

Getting to Crete through Cyclades:

From April to October many ships are travelling from Heraclion and Saint Nikolaos to and from the Cyclades islands.
